Re: the question of the correct pronouunciation of "Albert", the Albert
clan (at least 5 are known in one lineage) was from Brussels, not
France. I Presume that the French pronounciation is valid, but is this
in fact so? Any Bruxellains in the audience?

I own a bunch of clarinets by E. Albert (father and inventor of the
"Albert system") and E. J. Albert (one of his sons, Jacques E., who
reversed his initials to foster commercial confusion with the father's
work). All are various varieties of "Albert" systems, they comprise Bb
bass, A, Bb and Eb. I seek a C and an alto or corno di bassetto, by the
way. All are well made, have fine sounds and are impeccably tuned. I
bought a set by E. J. Albert last year from the distinguished Canadian
clarinettist, Avram Galper; they play (and at A 440!) almost as nicely
as my Buffet R13, and with less resistance.

It is often forgotten that the "Albert" systeme was developed (in 1862,
from the 1809 Muller 13-key model) AFTER the Boehm (invented 1839, by
Auguste Buffet, not by Boehm), it is not a more "primitive" system but
is merely different.
