When I started playing Eb a few years ago, I started putting in ear plugs,
both while practicing and at rehearsals. I use ear plugs now whenever
practing, Eb or Bb. My left ear pops with sound stimuli, the louder the
sound, the louder the popping, and it can be painful in and of itself. The
high frequency of the Eb only makes matters worse.
So, to all you clarinetists out there, pay heed if you value your hearing.
