Of the groups I perform with, the La Mirada SO is plagued with (1)
trumpets who sound as if they're playing in a stadium, and (2) a
conductor who has little concept of balance. I
use ear plugs regularly at rehearsals only, but that does interfere with
my clarinet sound. The Pomona Concert Band is somewhat worse: louder
brass and a partially deaf conductor (really!). I only make one
rehearsal and the concerts, to save my ears. Then there are the
d(r)ummers in this group...........!
