You beet your sweet *** I've had the experience of not being able to
hear myself play. I've been blasted to deafness (temporary, I hope) by
idiot trumpet players who think it's funny that they offend so many
people with their lack of musicality. Since they also seem to be inable
to understand that thing called rhythm, it made following the rest of
the group almost impossible too. I simply refused to sit there
anymore. Amateurs in community bands can sometimes afford to do this
(also, I threatened to switch to sax). Now I'm out of their line of
fire and much happier for it. This should never be taken lightly - you
have rights too, you know. I've been cursed with a lifetime of
conductors who were all brass men, except one. What a relief he was!
