I was very interested in Mark Charette's response, dated 23 Apr 1999,
especially about the 22000 series Buffet and the R-13 designation. Mark,
perhaps you may remember that I seemed to have started a discussion about the
R-13 clarinet when I was inquiring about the fingering on my Buffet R-16 3/4,
SN 22516 which was manufactured around 1936-7. There were quite a few
individuals who claimed there was no such thing as an R-13 manufactured
during this period although I have Buffet literature from 1941 that shows
several model Buffet clarinets from the R-13 to my R-16 3/4. I am wondering
if your message reflects that these clarinets did, in fact, exist and were
designated as such by Buffet (Crampon & Cie). Thanks for allowing me to
respond. Wes Franklin
