If you have a sharp knife, it's quite easy to cut a very thin slice off
each side of your B flat reed so that it conforms better to the width of
the E flat mouthpiece window. You then also have a usefully thicker reed
than an E flat reed of the same nominal strength. The curve of the reed
at the top seems to match well enough - this is perhaps the most
surprising
thing.
