Following the Ridenour-Pay-et al. thread with fascination. I play actually =
with my nose. I find that when I am playing etudes or whatever and =
sounding my best I'm starting the tones from so high in my head that it's =
practically my nasal cavity (don't mean to be indelicate here). Now, what =
is hard for me is playing with brass right behind me (I have started =
played in an orchestra for the first time in my life). If I cannot *hear* =
myself, I cannot *play* and only a squeak comes out. In other words, I'm =
robbed of everything I need to produce and shape a note. Truly, this is a =
distressing thing--I plan to take a blasting (!) mouthpiece next rehearsal =
(perhaps my new and unpredictably incredible plastic Bay MO-M), yet know =
that if I cannot hear myself, I may as well put the instrument on my lap.
