Dear Bill,
New users to the net may not realize that these stories have gone around
time and again. Some people truly feel they are doing a service by
passing the word along. In a recent family discussion about the same
issue, my sister-in-law pointed out that WE had stories about "the hook",
the dead girl's sweater left in a back seat, ad infinitum. Some of us
relayed those stories, some didn't. We are now seeing the same thing at
a higher tech level, that's all. Once they've (new users) been around
for a while (either in age or urban legends experience), they'll no
longer believe and/or will know the resources to check it out (like you)
- but the next generation will do their version. "There's nothing new
under the sun"
Remember your "delete" option and put exercise it on these messages and
on your irritations!
