When I took my daughter to do her grade 2 clarinet exam recently there
was another girl there doing grade 7 (these are UK Associated Board
grades, which go from 1 to 8, so grade 7 is pretty advanced). She had a
brace on her upper teeth, but from what I could hear of her from the
other room it didn't seem to inhibit her playing. Chatting to her
Mother meanwhile, she said that her daughter took a week or two to
adjust to playing while wearing the brace, but thereafter it didn't
bother her at all.

Hope this helps.
