Of course, version three is the same as version one, except that the sound
quality is improved. The original version of 1939 WAS state-of-the-art,
even in stereo! But if I were, say, a surviving member of Stokowski's
family, I would be appalled to see pictures of Stokowski conducting, but
hear Irwin Kostal's performance coming out. Returning to the original
soundtrack, even with any inherent limitations in sound quality, was the
right move in my opinion.
