I had a problem with my clarinet when I first got it. The pads were not
sealing in the bottom part when I would go down to C. I would practice and
learned the "death grip". I am working on getting rid of that. I also
damaged my clarinet more, I bent the alternate C key on the left side.

Another thing that I can think of when I had this problem is to make sure she
is not pinching the sound off from the reed. As I would go down from high G,
I would start to bite down. I was out of tune on the notes and then by C
there was no sound or it was squeaky.

If her clarinet checks out okay, just give her a lot of positive
encouragement. That is what helped me to keep practicing and not to just
quit playing.
