I agree with Anne's comment and believe that this is the most likely cause
of this problem. Students hands are small and not as strong as adults. We
can often easily close a key with a spring that is slightly too stiff but it
can be very difficult for a student. Also if this is the problem, it is
important to get fixed right away as there is a risk that she will
eventually learn to put a "death grip" on her horn to close this key. This
of course is a very bad habit and will hamper her technique when she needs
to play quick passages.

By the way there are a lot of us here who are not professional musicians. I
am an engineer and clarinet is my serious hobby.
