Just for fun, I passed the Spanish commentary of C‚sar Cano's Concerto for
Clarinet and Orchestra through AltaVista's automated language translation.
What resulted was interesting enough that I thought I would share it. While
it isn't a perfect translation by any means, it is quite readable and
surprisingly poetic.

CONCERT FOR CLARINETE AND ORCHESTRA

COMMENTARY

The Concert for Clarinete and Orchestra want render tribute to the great poet
Spanish Federico Garc¡a Lorca, special remember in 1998 by fulfill the
centenary of his birth.

The build consist of three movement, whose title do reference to his word
poetic. The first title, "Solitude of the high," and take like mention the
verse "I be born for you, solitude of the high". The artist feel formidable
single in a world more and more material and frivolous. His solitude come of
a subtle captivity. Be hostage of his art, be "chain to an iris" (remember
the magician word of Rub‚n Dar¡o). Today, more that never, have that dream
with the high, arrive, arrive, beyond any sky.

The second time, "Arc of moon", take his name of the estrofa: "A arc of moon
black / on the sea in movement / My son that not have be born / me
persecute." Be a movement of omen. The poet transfigures in vidente,
witness of a reality outside ours limit.

"Profile of the duende" be the title of the third and last part. In she
evoke the world of the sing jondo so want by Federico, show solely his
profile, that surround, in this marry, to a aesthetic different and
personnel. The Petenera and the Buler¡a appear here like beautiful body have
by other spirit, that them lead, conscience alter, in his atavic dance,
towards the silence end. The voice of the poet cross, chisel with black and
silver, the labyrinth alive of the "touch", mold the like the blood that
invade ours hand and ours heart.

The mention that accompany this last title come of the "Theory and game of
the duende" write up by Lorca in 1933: "... to the duende have that wake up
the in the last room of the blood."

The score be base in seven series of twelve sound, that generate everything
the material melody and overtone. This series be treat free, allow create
and handle a syntax harmony flexible and powerful, essential for power
express in each moment what the composer wish, and maintain, in addition, the
coherence within the system composition.

The Concert for Clarinete and Orchestra be a order of the Counsellor of
Culture, Educaci¢ and CiŠncia of the Generalitat Valencian. His composition
finalize the 27 of November of 1998 and be dedicate to the clarinetista Joan
Enric Lluna.
