Subj: [kl] Good product for bass clarinet
Date: Thu, 15 Apr 1999 22:08:08 -0400

One of my students, Ryan Richman, showed up today for some imergency repairs
on his bass clarinet. When I finished replacing a pad that was giving him
trouble, he showed me something that I thought was a good enough idea to pass on.

He replaced the always wearing out and dropping off rubber tip on his peg with
a product called the Wolf Super End Pin. This is a tough vinyl ball that
attaches with set screws. Cello players probably know about this gizmo because
they were the intended target for this product, but I think bass clarinet
players will find it good for them as well. This little job does not skip, has
a really sticky grip to it and it looks like it will last a long, long time.
The only bad thing is that it is a bit pricey, around $20 US dollars. The ball
tip is made in Holland but should be available in any good string shop.
