Can't speak for David Blumberg, but as long as we're talking about folk
medicine and superstition and so forth, I'd guess it's one of the ancient
laws of magick, known as the Law of Contagion or the Doctrine of Signatures:
Eat turkey and play like a turkey.
Hmmm. Eat pork and play like a pig? Eat chicken and chicken out of the
concert? Eat a banana and the reed warps? Eat . . . uh-oh, we're all gonna
starve. But wait! Eat berries and play berry well! Just make sure they're
not raspberries.
