David, I'm not a professional clarinetist and have never auditioned for
anything. But if you compare a music audition to a job interview, you might
find the answer to your question in your own life experience. Unless you were
applying for a job with Apple Computer or another "think different" org, you
would wear a plain suit and tasteful tie. AFTER you're hired, you can show
them your bag of tricks. But I would play it safe BEFORE the contract was
signed. You need to show them first that you can "fit in."
