I think we have already determined that it is not something that is
necessarily as easy as looking up the Duke website to find a teacher. Many
schools have adjunct faculty that are not necessarily listed on the website.
Many music schools have a system where you can bring your teacher in from
within the community. I was just talking to a fellow faculty member about
this who is being nominated by a student so he can teach her at the
University of Toronto. I am a faculty member of the Royal Conservatory of
Music in Toronto and our students in the professional school can request
teachers from outside of the school. There may be someone they want to study
with that plays in the Toronto Symphony Orchestra that is not formally listed
as a faculty member at our school. Thus, it would be helpful for the person
to know that they could, for example, study with J. Valdepenas in the TSO and
the school would pay for it. This is not something that someone would find
on our website. Only someone who knows of clarinet players living in the
Toronto area could answer this question. I don't necessarily think of this
as "easy" information to obtain. JC
