I can add another reason, having been there myself. Often in summers I have
had internet connectivity only by long distance phone lines to my home
server. Internet access is relatively inexpensive, because the program
(Eudora) connects, downloads, uploads and hangs up - THEN you read the
material. Web access is expensive, because you are connected with the meter
running for the whole session. Therefore, during these times I use web
access only as a last resort.

Even when it is a local call, when you are connected your phone is busy. If
this is your only phone line (as is true for most of us) you would be tying
up the line worse than any teenager I have ever been responsible for!

George
