I agree with you George. My teacher had me play double lip when I warm up
to help me stop biting and it definitely helps. I do not practice it as much
as I should but when I feel myself tightening for the higher notes I always
add double lip back into my warm up. Double lips makes your embouchure do
the work and rely on tongue position rather then use you teeth do the work.
My teacher mentioned something about Robert Marcellus playing double lip at
one time in his career but he changed back to single lip playing. I suggest
that if anyone has a problem with biting that they add this to there warm up
in some sort of fashion. I like to do tonguing exercises and scales with
double lip.
