Subj: [kl] 8-year old wants to play the flute

Gosh, I almost shot this one off to the Flute list.
Heres a simple solution that is pretty standard in the Flute world. Start
the younger player on a curved headjoint. No size problem then. Armstrong
makes a curved headjoint flute that comes with a standard straight one also
in the case. This year, a 2nd grader wanted to play the Clarinet (brother
of a student of mine), and his fingers were big enough to do it. He's doing
great, and can now do an entire C scale from low to high C now (2nd leger
line). We use the Galper Clarinet Method book 1.
He wanted to start last summer, but I made him wait till he got his 2 front
teeth. (ps. his mom teachs 1st grade).
