I think that all of you who ahs comments about bells up is quite
wrong. Its not a question about visual effect, its a question about
sound effect. As some of you wrote its quite difficult to play bells
up with the same intonation and sound as with the usual bells down.
Well I belive thats why Mahler puts in bells up in several of his
works. In order to get a clarinet and oboe section to penetrate
sometimes a hole orchestra you have to play bells up to make your
sound more hard and almost metalic. To conclude I also want to say
that if its writtend "Shalltrichter auf" you should always play bells
up.
