Hi Ming Wu,

I use MIDISCAN to convert printed music to MIDI files. Clean separate
parts work
the best using this technique. I scan at 400 dpi and under ideal
conditions only
about 5% of the result needs to be cleaned up. I'm finishing up the K.375
Serenade for Winds right now. Scanning didn't work well at all. I finally
went to
inputting from my computer keyboard because the score from which I worked had
a system of three staves and pairs of instruments on each staff. My version
of MIDISCAN is unable to delineate diffferent note sequences for the two
instruments,
for example 4 eighth notes for Clarinet 1 and a dotted quarter and eighth for
clarinet 2.

There are different MIDI input devices, both keyboards and "wind
controllers."
I'm not a student of that technique, but was a list out of Canada called
WIND which I found to be very helpful in the beginning. It doesn't seem to
exist anymore, at least I can't find it at the Liszt site.

If you find Beethoven's Opus 16 MIDI file, let me know. Importing MIDI
files into
music notation programs is far easier than having to do the scanning and
cleanup.
