This sounds like Catholic dogma. It's my understanding that Brahms set
a text from the Lutheran Bible for his German Requiem, hence the name
Ein Deutsches Requiem. I'm not so sure your statement is correct, not
just regarding Brahms but also pertaining to early Lutherans who were
also composers.
