Not to worry, Cindy. Drug store hydrogen peroxide (which is what I assume
we are talking about) is used as a mouth wash for certain dental conditions
- it is indeed a strong oxidizing agent, but the cells seem to be protected
by a specific enzyme (peroxidase) which destroys the peroxides very fast.
Secondly, as soon as the reed dries, the peroxide is gone - it cannot exist
out of an aqueous solution. Finally, I routinely soak my reeds for about 5
minutes after using them (when I am at home); they have been known to stay
in it overnight, but that was because I forgot them. Didn't seem to hurt
them, though.
