Excellent idea. However, it is not totally unknown to make high-quality
instruments of plastic. I have an all-plastic Loree oboe, which is as
fine an instrument as can be asked for. I have had several oboists play
on it, and often they are not even aware that it is make of plastic, until
I tell them. Also, the Fox company makes some of their oboes and bassoons
from plastic. They subject the plastic to the same manufacturing
processes as wood. Many people prefer their plastic instruments.
