I believe that medicine transcends science because it involves the soul. As a
scientist, I know how icily objective we must be. The data are absolute and
must withstand unbiased scrutiny. Medicine, by contrast, seems to be as much
art as science. The best physicians I have known seem to be able to heal the
spirit as well as the body. Many physicians are also excellent musicians,
perhaps because they can "live" in both domains, blending objective
pitch/rhythm/counting with soulful musicality.
