Regarding David B's post: Don McGinnis (I believe it was he) made a recording a
number of years ago playing a professional wooden clarinet for the pieces on one side
of the record and a plastic Bundy (!!!) for the pieces on the other side. (I think I
have this recording but a quick search of my records failed to turn it up so I may
not.) My guess is he sounds pretty good on both sides. I would find it an
interesting experiment to mix up the pieces and see if a group of experienced
clarinetists (perhaps at the ICA meetings) could tell the difference with any
accuracy. BTW, this experiment would not answer either Mark Charette's research
question or Roger Garrett's.
