The Grout I have, and had to study for a class, is the Third Edition
which was published in 1980. At the time, my only complaint about the
book was WHAT he chose to talk about in depth and what he almost
completely ignored. If I recall, most of these decisions by the author
pertained to music of the Twentieth Century.

When writing such a tome, it is understandable that there might be
biases, personal tastes, preferences and areas treated in a short way
because of, maybe, being less familiar with that particular composer's
music or simply not liking it.

All who read for information need skills of discrimination, tolerance
and even a degree of skepticism---in short, not accepting all that one
reads as gospel truth.
