I have, of course, been communicating with Gary for a number of years
on this list and the pleasure was mine in meeting him. I was in Las
Vegas for two lectures, the first on "Mozart and Mathematics" and the
second as a pre-concert lecture on the history and problems of Mozart's
Requiem.

Anyway, Gary brought his son and he was a delight; i.e., a kid with real
interest in his eyes and a look that says "I want to really KNOW!". I
then went out and blew $1.30 on a video poker machine and went home
pissed off because I had spent 3 days there without playing anything. And
then to do a Mozart talk followed by a buck thirty loss was too hard to
take.

Great town, Las Vegas. A mix of the Vatican and Hollywood. Such
architecture!! Egyptian pyramids next to NY, NY next to a
Venetian Palazzo! And the ladies of the town were very friendly to
me, or at least as friendly as my wife would permit me to be since
she was right behind me.
