Yes, but in the clarinet, the medium is not the wood, it is the air.

It would be impossible to produce a balso wood clarinet and a grenadilla
wood clarinet with the same dimensions and the same smooth interior
surface.

It is a basic scientific principle of woodwind acoustics that the sound is
not raditated from the wood. Any vibration transmitted in this manner
would be so weak as to be insignificant in the total sound intensity of
the instrument. The sound is radiated by and through the air.
