Did you just recently add the altissimo A to your range? I know that when I
first started playing this note, I had a difficult time for a while
controlling whether I got the E or the A. However continuing practice
finally settled it down. It really helps to "think the pitch in your head"
to help you hit the right note and stay on the right note. On your long
notes cracking to the higher pitch, it could be that as you tire or your air
starts to give out that you pinch to keep going and that will pop you up to
the higher note.
