<They are not acoustically identical. The concerto has a brighter sound
than the opus. The opus is used more for the orchestral setting. When
I tried all of the clarinets there was DEFINATELY a difference. I
decided right away that I wanted the opus. The tone is much better in
my opinion. When I upgrade the sounds of the opus Bb and the opus A
will be almost identical.

Andrea, actually...I'd hate to tell ya...they are acoustically identical.
I do have an Opus Bb...which I thought was better than my Concerto Bb
that I had. It was...however...remember...every instruments is
different. I don't know if I'm making sense right now because it's
2:20am. They are acoustically the same. The opus has some extra tenon
rings, the extra Eb/Ab lever, silver keys...hmmm...what else? That's all
basically...but those are the only differences. The clarinets that you
were more than likely just not the same, which is not uncommon. Is any
clarinet the same? The great difference in sound, also, may just have
been, what I believe, you psychologically thinking that this more
expensive instrument should sound better... I believe in this in the
smallest bit, however, my young 19 year old self cannot exactly explain
it. I'm sure many of you on the list know what I am saying. Sometimes,
when you think too hard, you can actually make something
happen...<---that's a crazy statement...please refrain from responding.
;)

Hmm...I'll say this. Take it for what you think it may mean. I
purchased my Bb Opus before I came to DePaul in 1996. I will purchase a
Leblanc A clarinet in September. I study with Julie DeRoche. We will go
to the factory in September and pick out a Concerto A. I'll leave it at
that.

You have a great instrument no matter what Andrea. This message was in
no way aimed at "shooting you down." I just wanted to clear that issue
up. In the end, though, it usually IS NOT the instrument.

Again, my apologies to the list for my randomness and extensive usage of
elipses.
