I didn't understand those two things, not because I am stupid, but
because they are not understandable.

I didn't 'discuss' or 'describe' any refinement. I simply said that
when we teach people to play music, we are teaching them essentially to
perform, to express in the context of performance, and that both
performance and expression are essentially simple things. Then our work
involves refinement of both performance and expression, giving the
student (hopefully) ever more powerful tools to achieve them.

But since I didn't describe this refinement, how can it be true that

...?

And in:

...what sort of expression does Roger mean, that is simple enough that
my nonexistent 'discussion' of 'refinement' can refer?

Does Roger really refuse to explain these things to all of us?

We all write for the list, surely.

And I submit that it is not surprising that I am not in the business of
taking private email lessons from Roger. After all, he began the
exchange by commenting publicly on a post of mine.
