Or, could it be ...
The reed's too hard for that mouthpiece? Switching from 3 1/2s to 4s is
not an "upgrade", it's just a harder reed. The numbers don't correlate
to one's proficiency or sound - Abe Galper's got a beautiful sound
(IMNSHO), and Abe - what is it that you play on? 3s? 3 1/2s? Who cares?
If the 3 1/2s were working, and the 4s don't - don't use those 4s.
If the 3 1/2s weren't working - that's a different problem.
