The newest editions of the famous Grout History of Western Music have
little resemblance to the first two editions done by Grout. My music
history friends fine the latest to be highly bloated and more overwhelming
than ever!

The attached scores and CD's, though expensive, are critical to the study
of music. What a wonderful idea to SEE and HEAR the music that is being
discussed in the text. Music history is not learning just facts, but
studying the actual music. I can assure the students on the 'list' that we
faculty may get occasional free copies of books for classes we honestly
expect to teach, we also pay list price for texts for our personal library.
You students buying GROUT now own 12 CD's of great music. When you have a
couple thousand LPs, and over 700 CD's like me, THEN you can say you know
something about music!

We live in a culturally rich time, having easy access to incredible amounts
of music. Unfortunately, society as a whole seems to have lost interest.
Sad.

Now wear out those Music History CD's!
