Wait a minute...! The last message I read in this thread waxed nostalgic
over the 1960 edition that we all fell asleep with so many nights. 700+
pages plus preface, index, etc.... Have I missed a link in the discussion
or am I reading here that Grout has gone megabuck-multimedia? Does the
Historical Atlas of Music now come with a CD package? Next the Janson
History of Art (the art equivalent of Grout) will come with a proprietary
(read expensive) software package to bring to students' desktop computers
those slides that we slept through in the darkened auditorium as the
instructor droned on about the textures in this background or the color
contrasts of that tapestry. No wonder higher ed is so expensive.
