I have two Yamaha clarinets, a YCL 72 and a YCL 20. I think Yamaha makes
great clarinets. For the most part I like almost any Yamaha clarinet better
than almost any Selmer and better than most Buffet clarinets. Whether you
like them or not - a matter of taste - the quality of construction is
excellent.

Did you pay too much? You've already bought it, play it and apparently like
it, at this point what you paid is irrelevant. I don't think $1600 is out
of the fair range of what they go for. I think some of the mail order
places would sell it for less. But if you bought it from one of them you
would not have had the chance to play it before you bought it (yes i know
some will send you a few horns, and yes I've bought some great stuff mail
order, but it is nice to pick up the very instrument you want an play before
you buy). Anyway, bottom line - don't dwell on what you paid for it. And,
it is certainly the caliber of a Buffet, Selmer or LeBlanc. People will
debate whether they like Yamaha or not, but they will have the same debates
about the other brands too.
