I remember seeing a program from the Clarinet congress Howard Klug hosted
while still teaching at the Univ.of Illinois in Urbana; he did a piece
called "Tri-Chroma" which I think required him to solo on flute, sax and
clarinet in front of the school band. And at a music convention of reed
specialists! Now that's something...

When I was a student at Indiana, I noticed a recital tape done a few years
before of a Master's recital by a player formally studying doubling. He
played one piece on each of clarinet, flute, oboe, sax and bassoon (and
not easy stuff; the clarinet pick was the Martinu Sonatine) and he did a
great job on each. The best thing was his encore, on recorder!
