Lars, as a subscriber and avid reader of "The Woodwind Quarterly" I think
your idea is great. However, since the subject matter is so highly personal
I think the best that may come of it is a compilation of sorts. After as
many years in this business as you, the combination of mouthpiece, ligature
and reed is a finely balanced entity. I have found that when I use
different mouthpieces some of the same reeds don't really respond the same.
I currently use Zonda #3G, Vandoren Black Masters #3 and/or Muncy #2 1/2.
Each has different charateristics and I need to work them differently. As
far as price, less expensive reeds do not seem to work as well. Maybe this
is a mind-set before one begins the process so a blind play test is
necessary. Just some random thoughts. Best of luck with your project and I
look forward to seeing the results.
