So, Dan, as a part of this individualized interpretation, should the
clarinetist also exercise his/her discretion in choosing the instrument on
which he/she will play? Is it OK to choose Yamaha or LeBlanc or Selmer
instead of Buffet, if that is what the players musical sensibilities
dictate? And, does the player have free choice of which mouthpiece and
reed to use? And finally, can the player choose the key of the
instrument, for example, A or Bb clarinet according to his/her concept of
tone?

(I know I'm not fooling you - I was trying to sneak up on you. But, it's
a serious question, and I'll be interested in reading your response.)
