While I think I can appreciate a quality mouthpiece, I am no expert. I
believe that there is a significant difference between the Borbeck
mouthpieces you buy from My. Borbeck DIRECTLY and those you can buy at IMS,
WWBW, or Weiner. I tried the #13 from IMS of which they had 2 in stock. I
returned it.

TTBOMK the Borbecks that are marketed thru IMS etc. are a lower priced,
made from less expensive blanks. These are made to compete with the Van
Doren mp's, say a 5RV or B45. EX: Borbeck #13 has a list of $90.00. IMS
markets it for $88.00 and WWBW for $78, Weiner at $85. Still a bit more
expensive than a Van Doren 5RV or B45 which can be purchased from
Muncy/IMS/WWBW for $52-56.00.

Mr. Borbeck offers two models above these "made-to-compete-with-the-masses".
One is made from French blank and the other from a German blank. The German
is hard rubber and the French is ebonite or some kind "ite" material.
forgive me. The German sells for $175.00 and the French for $135.00.

So, when we speak about Borbecks, it would appears that a comparison of the
mass-marketed to the "customs: produces an "apples 'n oranges" comparison
... or as I was told by Mr. Robert Borbeck ... "there is no comparison at
all".

I have to add that it was NEAT hearing from Mr. Borbeck about his training
with Mr. Kaspar and the great clarinetists he has had the opportunity to
work with. NOW, whenever I visit Las Vegas I will truly have something ELSE
to do.
