Having played in many many show pit orchestras, I can say with certainity,
that many composers and arrangers do NOT leave enough time to switch
instruments. They are dealing with the timing of musicial events and not
with being reasonable for the doubler! There are no considerations for the
performing difficulty of switching from hard jazz on tenor sax and in two
bars playing a soft and controlled oboe solo!

The idea of a doubler's sonata is interesting. But what style of music?
