Dear Lauren,
I am a sophmore music major at Utah State University. I recently switched
from a Gregory Smith mouthpeice to a "Borbek" (hope I spelled that
correctly!); which had a "facing" of 11. I find my new mouthpeice (the
Borbek) plays much better in tune throughout all ranges of my clarinet.
I also found that it helpful to have both a 4 and 4 1/2 reed (Vandoren
V12) to play on each mouthpeice I experimented with. Having the strength
of reed best suited to the mouthpeice helped bring out the best sound of
the mouthpeice!
Good luck in your search!
Mel Clayton:)
