With all the horror stories being passed around on this subject,
I feel I have contribute my (perhaps foolhardy) positive experience.

I had all four of my wisdom teeth pulled at once. Fortunately, only
one was impacted. The doc was only going to do two then do the
next two in a week or two - but he said they were coming out so
easy, he just decided to do 'em all.

Now my doc didn't have a clue that I played a wind instrument,
and I never bothered to ask him about the consequences of
playing (I was young and care-free). I was playing my sax the
very same night - gauze in mouth and all! I took the next day off
and was playing regularly after that. After hearing all these
horror stories, I'm convinced that was not such a smart thing to
do, but I felt no pain (the medication assured that) and I suffered
no adverse effects from it.

Maybe my situation was just a fluke and maybe I was just lucky.
However, I would never recommend that anyone ignore the advice
of his/her dentist. Be smart and talk it over. And there have been
a lot of good suggestions about what to do with the "down time".
