Some food for thought here -

I had mine pulled back in October. Total bony impaction. My oral surgeon
advised me not to play AT ALL for ten days. His rationale (he was the father of
a saxophonist, apparently) was that the increase in pressure could do something
along the lines of forcing air through the holes he had to make in my sinuses.
Now I'm no surgeon, but that sounded like a bad thing. The word "embolism" came
up, and since I scuba dive and am familiar with that word from diving, I decided
that it really wasn't so important to practice that I was willing to risk any of
those potentially ugly consequences. Thus, I orchestrated, I worked on my
keyboard skills, I wrote out scales and chords, and got through those ten days.
Ironically enough, I made huge strides when I got back into it - I must have
needed a break. I think I'd lay off the horn for a while and take advantage of
the downtime. Besides, if your recovery went anything like mine did, you
probably look very much like a Disney character right about now. Just wait
'till you start turning colors... it's a riot.
