No, the change was acctualy introduced by the same inventor who made the
mechanism much less prone to seizing up. He had trouble because the
typewriter was now capable of beating the best copyist, so he redesigned the
keyboard to make it more acceptable in the workplace (i.e. slower but more
reliable).
