Ah, but I don't have this problem. I have only had to throw away one reed
in the last several years (it had uncurable chirp). There is of course some
variation from reed to reed due to the nature of the material we are dealing
with in reeds but it is quite easy to cope with and the variation is
actually quite useful. Sometimes a person needs something a touch harder or
softer than usual.

If you are throwing away 8 out of 10, you have the wrong brand and/or
strength for you. That doesn't mean they are substandard just that they are
not right for you.
