Many things influence tone besides the mouthpiece. Embouchure and breath
control are two big elements. Perhaps this player likes a "bright" sound
and so plays that way. Matching of reed to mouthpiece will influence the
sound. The ligature will influence the sound. Who knows what else could be
involved.

The clarinet situation seems to be quite a bit different when it comes to
reeds. There are many equally fine brands of clarinet reeds. Different
players have difference preferences. There is no one "best" reed. For me
the regular Vandorens work best and my alternate choice is Mitchell Lurie.
I've tried other reeds and not been satisfied. Some one else may experience
just the opposite.

In no particular order, here is a list of reeds, all of which have their
devoted followers. It is, of course, by no means complete.

Vandoren (I think there is a hand select version also)
Vandoren V-12
Mitchell Lurie (regular & premium)
Grand Concert
Zonda
Rico Royal
Oliveri
Glotin

Have fun.
