BUT the Dutch window requires mutilating the music. Bands will make you pay
for a new part. Besides that, why should I have to mutilate the sheet to
play it. This is precisely what I object to. For music that you personally
own, the sheet music wears out and tears much sooner if you use the Dutch
window approach. Most of us have done the discreet approach too. But that
IS a legal risk for both you and the band.

I'm already familiar with a variety of work arounds and so am not looking
for such. My point is that we shouldn't have to. We are being deprived of
what we are paying for. That is my point. Do you buy a car and cut a hole
in the back because there is no access to the trunk? Do you buy two new
toasters to put assemble into one working unit? Or two cars? Or two of
anything else?

I am happy to give the composers and publishers, etc their proper earnings
but why should I have to accept such substandard material? Because that is
all that is available? We don't accept this in other purchases, why should
be have to accept it in music publications?

Sorry to carry on so but I take care of things I buy and have music that I
used back in high school (over 30 years ago). It just goes against my
nature to have to mutilate things. I couldn't even highlight or write in my
college textbooks. Yes I pencil notes on music but it is very small, very
light, and in pencil. It also goes against my nature to cheat. Why should
I have to choose between damaging materials or cheating?

Boy, did you hit one of my hot buttons!
