I, too, have made my own bass clarinet stand. I used a tripod-based
microphone stand, a plastic-coated U-shaped tool hook (just large enough to
fit aroung the body of the instrument) and assorted hardware to attach it
to the stand. It worked great when I played "Barnum" and had several rapid
changes between bass clarinet and bari sax!

If you have to mic a saxophone, the rest of the band is too loud.
